First 32 words

I get a jump start on you guys, so I thought I might rub it in your faces. My first 32 words:

The gravel crunched under Sarah's feet as she trudged toward the curb. The hot Texas sun was beating down on her back. She was sweating profusely.

"Fuck," she hissed under her breath.

My first 63, which I maintain is part of the novel proper:

The following story is fiction, but any resemblance between characters in it and real people is unlikely to be coincidental – specifically, they are all based on me. Seriously, I’m an egomaniac: do you think I have to go around raiding other people’s personalities for character ideas when I am constantly surrounded by the wonder that is my own? Do not make me laugh.

My first, overly verbose, 38 words are:

She had long flowing hair, and it contained rubies when it caught the sun. She was often seen walking across the green during the late afternoon when the sun was low and groaning from its excesses of mid-day.

When it comes to NaNoWriMo, there's no such thing as "overly verbose".

indeed. I've also had the thought that i might do away with any apostrophes that are used to signify omission - they simply waste useful words.

After stating that I was going to take a more active role this year, I decided I really should post/comment more, so here are my first 37 words:

“Who says anyone has to know?”
“That’s what you said about your last ‘project’.”
“This is different.”
“Well, in that case, go on ahead.”
“I’m serious.”
“You can’t honestly believe we could cover something like that up?"

My first 17:

"Alex Crane was not sure what, precisely, the laws and regulations were in Winnipeg regarding lap dances."
